Carbondale Education Foundation
Represented by Katy Nardecchia, board member focused on events
CEF was formed a few years ago to support public education in Carbondale. Their vision is to foster consistent academic excellence, innovation and inclusivity.
The upcoming need for assistance is Cowboy UP, August 22, 2025. This event was started in 2009 to celebrate Carbondale’s western heritage and support community programs. It has become a very popular community event, usually selling out quickly. Each year, an organization is designated as the fundraising beneficiary. In 2024 that was CEF, and they were pleased to be chosen again this year. CEF uses the funds raised for Teacher Grants. In 2024 they received $44,000 and have distributed $25,000 to date. The grants fall into 3 categories: Equipment, Experiences, and Supplies. Any of the schools in Carbondale may apply.
CEF provides volunteers and items for the silent and live auctions. The auctions are the primary source of funds passed on to the beneficiary. Sponsorships and ticket sales are used to cover event expenses.
There are multiple volunteer needs: approximately 50 people to help with the event itself, volunteer coordinators, assistance with finding sponsors, publicity, and soliciting items for the silent and live auctions. To sign up for volunteer opportunities go to; https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B45AEAD2FA6FAC43-56797700-cowboy
Now is also the time to start finding those auction items. Last year there were approximately 100 silent auction items, and 6 for the live auction. (Rebecca Guerra has suggested a Vintage Cowboy “boutique” as a focus for the auction and it is anticipated that would be very successful.) Gift cards are always popular, as well as experiences, such as horseback riding or other activities. Here is the Google form for donations
In closing, Katy let us know of an upcoming event in the neighborhood to benefit CEF. On June 17, they will “take over” the Homestead Restaurant for a portion of food sales and all tips. There will be two seatings for dinner and by reservation only. Watch for further information and encourage great participation.
